11D the BIG question...
Why do you think the Sainsbury's superstore in Farnham chose to locate in Waterlane? Try and think of at least three factors that may have influenced this decision.
It would be cheaper becuase of the smell, easy and cheap to transport goods to and from the store becuase it is near major roads. Easy access for customers.
because Sainsbury's had competition in Farnham already from Waitrose. If they found that their sales were falling and the Farnham Waitrose was rising, then they would have found that their customers wanted to buy from the other competitor. Instead of losing more money in town, they went to a new location to gain more customers. 2- lots of schools in the area where may go to purchase goods. 3- can have a large carpark, ease of use for customers to get there. Instead of in Farnham having limited or having to pay for parking. Nick Roper
One of the factors would be ease of transport for the suppliers due to the roads around the area. Another factor is it may be cheaper to locate there due to the local sewer works. Another factor could be that it will be easier for customers to go there because it is in a good location.
Water lane is aldershot and farnhams main road towards the south coast and people passing through towards the south coast will stop in to buy something say for instance you are going to the isle of wight and your live in aldershot you set off to get to portsmouth and they forger there toothbrush they can go in and get one because of the convienience of the super store.
-It is cheaper as the area is fairly plain and unpopular (far from other shops and town)which leads to a lower land value than a more popular area such as in a town -There are not any competitors in the form of other superstores nearby. -The store is located near to a main road and intersection, so attracts travellers who require food/petrol during thier journey. -It is easy for suppliers to access as the store is near a main road that is linked to london.
I think that sainsburys decided to locate their shop in water lane becasue it is a very busy road and therefore a lot of people will be driving past and round the round about, and perhaps need petrol or shopping. Also it is quite near a lot of houses etc so its easy to get to. Hollie Brewer :)
big amount of land so lots of people can go there, its not very far from were anyone lives, easy for anyone to get there, and there isnt another superstore really in the area its also on a motor way so it would be easier for people to get something if they were coming home from work
Holly Lawson Says: A store may choose a location because of: Avaiable space Geographical position with realtion to towns Socio-economic The population of local people Average salaries (how wealthly the area is) The location of competitors Roads and transport links Availability of suppliers
it is easy to access and there are a lot of people living around that area. a superstore is a very big building and would need a lot of space therefore it is a good idea to locate it there because there was a lot of land. liam wright
1)Because in farnham the sainsbury's had competition from stores such as waitrose. 2) also the sainsburys in waterlane is next to the dual carriage way so the customers can get to the store faster, and it is on the way home from work places. 3) in the waterlane sainsburys there is a free carpark and easy access
Central location between Farnham, Aldershot & Badshot Lea which means it attracts a larger number of people.
It is near a busy stretch of road which means communters are able to do their shopping on the way home from work. This means they are more likely to go there rather than another store as it is more convienient.
They are in an area with few supermarket competitors and therefore are likely to attract everyone from the surrounding area as people are likely to go to the shop nearest to where they live.
Because it is in the 'middle of nowhere' they have a lot of space for parking, and it is not far from Farnham, Aldershot and Badshot Lea. It's also smelly.
I think one of the factors could be they would have a large amount of land, There is no other competitiors in that area, it is located on a dual carridgeway therfore people may stop and get refreshments.
Sophie Turner - I think that 3 factors that could have influenced the location of Sainsbury's Waterlane could be: The geographical location in relation to the town The accessible road links The economy of the area The relationship with competitors - how far away are they?
I think they chose to locate their store there because they have alot of land space to build a large store, it is next to a busy road meaning there is a chance many people will stop to shop there as most people go food shopping with their cars and also it has a petrol station meaning people driving will stop there. Finally, it is close to houses making it easy for local people to shop there.

3 reasons:
ReplyDelete1 - There are lots of local schools in the area so people many families are likely to live locally and shop there
2 - There are not any big supermarkets in the immediate area so there is less competition.
3 - The store is near some main roads so is easy to access for customers and suppliers
