10D BIG Q
Read the Farmhouse Fare case study carefully on page 150. Why do you think
Helen chooses to make cakes by hand? What do you think the disadvantages of
making them this way are?
Helen chooses to make her cakes by hand so that she can do it to the customers need. Also she would be able to sell her cakes for more. A disadvantage of making cakes by hand is that you cannot make as much as you could in a large factory. -Tom and theresa
slow production more effort to make many possible faults. it is a good idea to produce by hand because you know it will be made well and it is traditional by hand.
the advantages of helen making the cakes by hand are that they are traditionally made to the best quality, giving her product a unique selling point. ALso the cakes might not be as good quality if they are mass produced.
the disadvantages are that she will have to employ a lot more staff because the cakes are hand made, so the business may be less profitable than if she mass produced her products using machines.
she cooses to make the cakes by hand, because they are unique and they have a good USP. The disadvatages of this would be she is unable to make large batches therfore is unable to cater all of the companies. Alex WAlsh-Smith and Will Kersley
Helen chooses to make her cakes by hand because people will want to pay tha little bit more for the hand made cakes as it would of had more effort put into it.
However the disavantages to this could be that it would cost more money has Helen would have to get more people to make them and also there are more chances to make a mistake by doing hand made
she may prefer to make them by hand because she wants to keep it traditional and wanted to diversify the production
