10x Big Question

Read the 'Panto' case study on page 116 of the Black business books. Summarise briefly why the Panto sometimes has negative cashflow (more money going out than coming in). Should the panto be concerned by these periods of negative cash flow?

  1. there negative cashflow periods because the pantomines arnt always gunna wanna be seen by lots of people. the theatre should not be concerned by this because they have peak times aswell as low times, it should balance itelf out, maybe turning over a profit.

  3. The Panto has a negative income because they still have to pay all of their expenses even when they are not performing when they are outside pantomine season.
The panto shouldn't be concerned about the negative cashflow period if they generate enough money when in panto season to cover the costs when they aren't playing to an audience they will be ok.
It would obviously help however if they could start making money when they are outside panto season by doing other types of performances.

  4. They still need to provide heating ect when there isnt a performance going on this means they are spending all there money on this but not getting anymore money out of it.

  5. They sometimes have negative cash flow because it is not always open and sometimes there is not much of an audience. They also have to pay for electric, council tax, business rates and gas.

  7. THE PANTO HAS NEGATIVE CASH FLOW BECAUSE WHEN THERE IS NO PANTO'S ON THE MONEY ISNT COMING IN BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT MAKING MONEY FROM THE TICKETS THEY STILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE CLEANERS AND FOR PEOPLE TO LOCK UP THEY ALSO HAVE A BAD CASH FLOW IN REHERSAL TIMWE BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO USE MORE LGHTING IN THE STAFF ROOM AND HAVE TO KEEP IT HEATED. THEY SHOULD BE A BIT CONCERNED BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT MAKING ANY MONEY AND HAVING TO PAY OUT BUT COME CHRISTMAS THEY WILL HAVE SOLD OUT PANTO'S AND BE ABLE TO MAKE ENOUGH MONEY UNTIL MARCH.

  8. the panto has more money going out then in most the time because when there is no performance they're still paying for other things for example heating and electricity. The panto shouldnt be concered because they also have times were they make lots of money which would balance it out.

  9. ThePanto has more money going out than coming in because of all the costs they have to pay even if there is no performance and because the panto has to pay for other things aswell.I dont think they should be concerned beacuse they will still have some sort of money and when performaces are going on they will have even more.

  10. They have negative income because they still have to pay all of their expenses even when they are not perfroming. More money is going out than comming in because they have to pay its council tax, business rates and standing charges to gas and electricity companies. Also there are full time staff who work there so they have to be paied along with all of the actors.

  11. their negative cash flows will be occuring because not everyone one is going to want to see a play in a small theatre.the theatre should not be concerned by this because they have peaks times near christmas and low times away from christmas, it should balance itself out, maybe turning over a profit.

  12. The theatre could be used while the actors aren't rehearsing or acting for musicians to play for extra money, because it gives both the theatre and the musician money meaning they would most likely play there.

  13. The reasons why the "panto" sometimes has negative cash flow, is that bills are at a fixed rate all year (heating and eletric) this would be fine in a normal business as there is always a chance cash will come in, but with the panto it is a seasonal event, by this i mean it is mainly open at christmas as thisd seems to be the festive period where audiences are most attracted.

yes, they should be concerned, this is because as it says in the book they hope christmas sales will keep the busdiness alive till the end of march, this is very risky as one year maybe people will be struggling too much with money to be able to go to the panto, this is also relivant to the current climate as people seem to be more careful with money now.
another big concern to add to this is heating bills and electicity seems to be raising, meaning they will need to make even more money possibly then before!

  14. More money is going out of the business rather than gaining profit in the business. This is because of the fact that even when there are no shows on the business has to pay for the council tax, staff, rooms and even lighting. Due to the lack of shows the company is providing they have negative income.
They could however provide different types of performances outside of the panto seasons to boost income.

  15. The panto sometimes has a negative cashflow as cash comes in and out on an irregular basis. For example, before they recieve income for the performance they have to pay out for many things, such as gas and electricity bills, costs for props and scenery, and cast members wages. They should not be concerned as this usual for them as they have to cater for all the costs upfront, before they gain the profit from the performances.

  16. People may have negative cashflow because...
    - The business isn't popular all year round meaning they wont get good money all the time, only at sertain points.
    - Has to pay for many things which decreases their money e.g.
    -cuncil tax
    -business rates
-standing charges to gas and electricity companies. With these you have to pay all year round. Which is bad as evem if your business isn't doing well you will have to pay meaning you will loose money.
