11d The BIG question
Japan is the originator of lean production. Explain how the recent Earthquake might cause businesses that are very lean to stop producing all together.
Tim Taylor As some of the powerstations were damaged in Japan there are times when there is no electricity, this means that some manufactuing plant will have to cease production when there is no power, this will lose massive amounts of money..
the earthquake will stop resources from coming into the business, businesses may stop producing all together as they may have been washed away. if they are very lean and use the jit method then they will not have enough stick to keep going because of the destruction.
If the business uses lean production techniques such as Just In Time suppliers may not be able to get to them to deliver supplies which means production will stop completely.
it may cause businesses from producing all together if the use lean production because if they were justing just in time (JIT) they wouldnt be able to get any more stock in because of the destruction. hollie :)
It will mean that if they use the just in time method, they will not have much stock in and not much backup stock and wont be able to get any more stock in because of the destruction so they can't continue producing stuff becuse they will have no stuff to make stuff with. lauren :)
It may stop them producing as there will be no need for their product and also if there was a need it will be hard for it to be transported efficently.
The business may have to stop producing all together because the suppliers may not be able to get the parts to them so it will stop them from working Dan
This could cause lean production to stop all together as it caused much deverstation meaing that suppliers of raw materials are not getting to their suppliers due to roads being closed ect
Tyanni: The earthquake will have caused suppliers to completely break down as transporting goods across the country is not possible due to the destruction caused in Japan. This then means that business who follow 'just-in-time' method, won't have any supplies bought to them at all. This is why they will stop producing all together as opposed to a business who keep stock of supplies and therefor have a few more days/weeked left of supplies.
Lean production techniques such as Just in Time will no longer be effective because the country's infrastructure is being disrupted by the disaster and suppliers will not be able to operate as before. Also, Lean production places a large responsibility on the employees of the business, who may have been seriously affected by the earthquake and may not be motivated to work as before. They may also take time off work to rebuild etc.
No one will want to invest in them because of the Earthquake/Tsunami has disrupted the stock levels in Japan and companies will be worried because lean production could make business fail if natural disasters happen/
the earthquake might cause businesses that are very lean to stop producing all together because they would have to replace a lot of land, and machines. they may not have the money for this liam
They will have relied heavily on machinery rather than people, so they may have to buy new or repair existing machinery. They wont have large amounts of stock (JIT)so they cannot keep runing whilst repairs are occuring. mark
Because the lean companies work with a JIT method they would only have a limited amount of back-up stock to use. They recent events would mean that the transportation of their materials cannot be delivered which would stock production all togther. The loss of earnings may mean that the company cannot recover and has to close. :) Charlie Cooper

ReplyDeleteThey will stop producing because at this present time it is not safe to produce and if they do they will end up losing money.
they will stop producing because its not safe to produce because of machinery falling on top of the workers.
